About BEA PAC
The purpose of the BEA Political Action Committee (BEA PAC) is to fully realize the goals and objectives of the Billings Education Association. Persons who are friends of education shall be supported for local, state, and federal offices.
The affairs of BEA PAC shall be governed by a ten member Board of Trustees which shall consist of the BEA President, First Vice President, Second Vice President and seven other trustees determined and selected by the BEA President and approved by the BEA Board of Directors.
The BEA PAC Board of Trustees shall determine which candidates or issues shall be endorsed by BEA PAC and how much financial assistance shall be contributed to such candidates or causes.
The BEA PAC informs the membership of its endorsement recommendations. Members may also be solicited for assistance with campaigning.
The Most Important Thing You Can Do - VOTE!
The BEA Political Action Committee encourages every member to vote every election.
The Next Most Important Thing You Can Do - CONTRIBUTE!
Members are encouraged to contribute at least $10 annually to the BEA PAC, in addition to contributions to the political action organizations of MEA-MFT and NEA/AFT. Download a PAC Contribution form, fill it out and return it to the BEA Office, 510 N. 29th St., Billings, MT 59101.
And Then - GET INFORMED!
BEA PAC will help you! The BEA Political Action Committee interviews and endorses candidates for most local elections:School Board Trustee Elections, Local State House and Senate Elections, and some state-wide offices.
Our PAC looks at candidates to see if they are 'friends of public education', regardless of party affiliation. We look at their voting record, if available, to see if what they say and promise matches what they actually do when representing us.
And then we let our members know who our 'friends' are and offer help with their campaigns, both financial help and volunteer help. Our endorsements will be posted on this web site on the Endorsements web page. If you sign up for our facebook group page (for members only) you will receive PAC announcements and more. (Just follow the instructions on the left side column.) At times mailings and flyers will be distributed to let members know which candidates are most likely to protect our interests and advocate for public schools.
Last, But Not Least - GET BUSY!
Help us get the word out. Talk to your family, fellow colleagues, friends, business contacts about our political reccomendations. URGE THEM TO VOTE! We are here to help you with talking points so you can confidently speak to others.
Volunteer to help our endorsed candidates or issues. There is always something to do to help with a campaign. Some take just an hour of time, some more of a committment. We can match you to a task that fits your schedule. Don't worry, training is included! Some ways you can help are:
Put up a sign in your yard.
Deliver or pick up signs for other locations.
Make phone calls.
Distribute literature.
Attend a rally or press conference.
Stuff envelopes.
If at any time you have questions about the BEA PAC, our endorsements, our position on specific issues or bills, or have a candidate recruitment idea - call the BEA, 248-9812. We welcome your inquires and your input!
