BEA Karen Cox Scholarshipcap & diploma

Applications for the 2012 BEA Karen Cox Scholarship are now available. CLICK HERE! to print an application. Or pick one up at the counselors' offices at West High, Senior High, Skyview High or the Career Center. The application deadline is March 6, 2012.

At its May 18, 2004 meeting, BEA Representative Council voted to rename the BEA Scholarship Fund, the BEA Karen Cox Scholarship Fund, to honor this dedicated member and Billings School District 2 teacher. Karen Cox was one of Montana's great educators and lost her life doing what she loved, working to improve public education.

Each year the BEA awards scholarships to high school seniors. The Scholarship Committee selects at least three scholarship recipients. The recipients are notified in May and receive their monetary award the following January. The amount of the monetary award varies each year depending on the interest earned on the fund.

Eligibility for the scholarship is limited to:

  • Students with a 3.0 grade point average and plans to pursue training at a post-secondary training institution and,
  • Students whose parents have been BEA members for five continuous years or,
  • Students whose parents have retired from the Billings Public Schools and were BEA members for five years prior to retirement or,
  • Seniors who have attended a Billings Public High School for at least two years and whose parents are not eligible for BEA membership.

Scholarship applications will be available each January at the counselors' offices at Senior High, West High, Skyview High and the Career Center. A downloadable version will be posted on this web page in January. The deadline for completed applications accompanied by all required documentation is the first Tuesday in March.
