Professional Development

As a union, we are committed to professional excellence. As a benefit of membership, our local, state, and national unions offer many opportunities for worthwhile professional development classes and programs.

Micro-credentials

Micro-credentials are offered through the NEA at no cost to union members. These asynchronous courses can be used for PIR Trade and Step-Up credit. Each course is worth 15 OPI hours.

2023 Educator Conference

Each year, MFPE organizes a two-day conference for educators from across the state. This year's conference will offer workshops, keynotes, and institutes on October 19-20 in Billings.

Marigolds for the Middle

Marigolds for the Middle is a mentorship program for new middle school teachers. This program is made possible in part by a grant from NEA. The program includes a New Hire Kickoff and meetings once per month.

Teacher Leadership Institute

MFPE's Teacher Leadership Institute is a robust, year-long program that helps foster and develop educational leadership skills. TLI Fellows attend virtual workshops and develop a capstone project. Up to 60 OPI credits are available as well as a monetary stipend for those who complete the capstone project.

National Board Certification

National Board Certification allows teachers to demonstrate the highest level of accomplishment in their profession. The Montana Professional Teaching Foundation helps Montana teachers to navigate the process, offering "Jump Start" sessions each year with significantly reduced rates for union members.
